Director’s Statement

With The Yellow Wallpaper: VR Experience, I want viewers to delve into Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s classic feminist story in a completely new way. By using interactivity to reverse the character roles, viewers can see for themselves Gilman’s own philosophy that we are humans more than any one gender. By weaving 360 live-action in a virtual reality environment with hand-painted animation, viewers can explore how humanity copes with repression through escapism and self-expression in art. I seek to promote healing through emotional growth inspired directly from  experiences of social isolation and trauma. By presenting audiences with different modes of relating to each other, my work encourages new possibilities for individuals to define themselves.
